Etsy Manufacturing

THE PROJECT

Etsy Manufacturing was a marketplace that helped Etsy sellers find and connect directly with manufacturers to form responsible partnerships. As lead product designer, I designed Etsy Manufacturing from the ground up, including the full marketplace ecosystem, marketing pages and etsy.com integrations.

The process involved extensive user research, including site visits to manufacturers and Etsy seller studios, along with journey mapping, empathy mapping, and plenty of usability testing. As we grew the marketplace, I facilitated both design sprints and informal collaborative team sketch sessions, making sure the entire team was completely aligned from the get-go. This collaborative approach became the basis of ‘Beyond the Waterfall: Rethinking How we Work’, a talk I gave at multiple tech conferences. As the team grew, I hired, onboarded, and supervised new designers.

Etsy Manufacturing was sunset in 2018 as part of a company directive to refocus on Etsy’s core product. It was an absolute joy to work on and an incredible team to be a part of.
